Our linen

The flax does most of the work.

We weave with French flax — grown in Normandy and Picardy, spun and woven within a few hundred kilometres of the field. It's a fibre suited to a hot climate long before it reached a WA bedroom: linen breathes, wicks moisture and keeps its structure while cotton goes limp.

Sand: Our signature tone — warm, sun-bleached, the colour of the dunes at Wells Park at low tide.
Sage: Dusty eucalyptus green. Reads calm against timber and rattan, never minty.
Ocean: Deep Cockburn Sound blue-green. The one people ask about first.
Driftwood: Pale grey-brown, bleached like timber left on the beach for a season.

Every run is stonewashed at the mill, not just softened with a chemical rinse — actual mechanical washing that relaxes the fibres before it ever reaches you. That's why it feels lived-in from the first night instead of six months in.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, undyed where possible, dyed with low-impact pigments where it isn't. No formaldehyde finishing, no synthetic softener coating that washes out in a month.

The founder

It started with a too-hot summer in Kwinana.

Nat Ferraro grew up two streets back from the water in Kwinana, south of Fremantle, and spent a decade in hospitality linen buying before she started asking why nobody made sheets for a climate like this one. Everything on the market was either heavy European cotton sateen that turned into a sauna by October, or "linen-look" polyester blends that were linen in name only.

She flew to France, sat with a small flax mill outside Lille that still stonewashes on-site, and brought back a sample sheet set that outlasted every hotel-grade cotton set she'd ever bought. Kwinana Home shipped its first run from a spare room in Rockingham eighteen months later.

"A sheet set should get better the more you use it. If it's not softer at wash twenty than wash one, it wasn't linen in the first place."

We still weave in small, seasonal runs — no year-round restock, no filler colours. When a colourway is gone, we wait for the next flax harvest rather than blend in a cheaper fibre to keep the shelf full.

The care ritual

Throw it in the wash. That's most of it.

Linen is famously low-maintenance — it's the fibre that gets better with neglect. A few habits keep it at its best for decades, not just years.

Wash

Cold or warm machine wash, gentle cycle, similar colours. Skip the fabric softener — it coats the fibre and dulls the texture that makes linen worth having. A wool-wash liquid keeps the natural softness intact.

Dry

Line-dry where you can — the sun and sea air do half the softening for you. Tumble dry low if you must; pull it out slightly damp and let it finish on the bed. Never dry on high heat.

Live in it

Skip the iron. The relaxed, slightly rumpled look is the point, not a flaw — that's what stonewashing is for. If you truly want it flat, iron on the reverse while still a little damp.

Before you order

Is linen actually cooler to sleep on?

Yes — linen fibres are hollow and moisture-wicking, so air moves through the weave instead of trapping heat the way tightly-woven cotton sateen does. It's the reason linen has been used in hot climates for thousands of years, long before air conditioning.

Will it feel stiff or scratchy when it arrives?

No — every run is stonewashed at the mill before it ships, which is a mechanical process, not a chemical softener coating. It arrives already soft and only keeps improving with washing.

What sizes do sheet sets come in?

Queen, King and Super King, each with a deep fitted sheet (up to 40cm mattress depth), flat sheet and two standard pillowcases. Duvet covers come in Queen/King (one size fits both) and Super King.

Do the colours fade in the wash?

Our pigments are low-impact and fixed at the mill — expect a gentle mellowing over a few years of regular washing, the same way good denim ages, not a patchy fade in the first month.

What's the 100-night promise?

Sleep on it for up to 100 nights. If you're not happy, contact us for a full refund — no need to keep it unused or unwashed. We'd rather you actually try it.
